L.C. Bass...

Brother Bass passed away this week.
L.C. was born 01/07/1912 making him 96 years old. I didn't know Brother Bass when he was a young, tall, strong man. I only knew him in his 90's. He was a faithful member of BABC that not only worked as maintenance man but also greeted people and held the front door open each and every week. There's a good chance that he held the door open for you a time or two.

Bass would be up at the church working in the heat, trimming bushes, in his sweater vest. I remember two years ago when I saw him lying under a bush from a distance. He wasn't moving. I thought, oh, no...the heat has got him. But as I walked over and talked to him, he was just "taking a rest." If he remembered he was sure to take his hat off when entering the church building out of respect. And if you asked him how he was doing then you've heard him say, "Not bad for an old duck." We actually have a file of funny comments and quips he said over the last few years.

It's really sad that he moved on to heaven but at the same time there is joy because he is in a better place, with a new body, and in the presence of his Savior! No hearing aids, no cane, no struggles. We like to think of him as now opening a door for someone in heaven, helping out, or trimming bushes with golden clippers.
Psalm 116:15 says, "Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of His saints."

Bro. Bass will be missed.

I didn't know him very well but I did shed a tear when I heard about his passing. He was so sweet and it brought a smile to my face to see him there opening doors for guests. He will be missed.

He would come into my office and sit in the chair by my desk and say, "How ya doin' Kitten?". Always made me laugh. Made me laugh even harder when I found out he called Keith "Kitten" too! He will be missed.

I know Bro. Bass held the door open for my husband & I when we visited your church several times. I also remember seeing him working outside in the heat. What a saint!! What an example he set for the rest of us. You are never too old to serve the Lord.
