My Y-Not-Tri Triathlon Results

Thursday evening I competed in the YMCA event - Y Not Tri Triathlon. I have a ton of thoughts on this and I'm going to try to lay some of them out here. This is going to be long and I know I'm breaking the Blogging 101 rule with a long post, but oh well. Pictures will be posted later.

This YMCA Triathlon was a great event with around 325 adult participants and tons of volunteers that did an awesome job with the course, keeping everyone safe and communicating very well. I arrived in time to get set up and watch the advanced division. Just prior to that they welcomed everyone and gave some instructions. They thanked PowerBar for their sponsorship and Regence Blue Shield gave the YMCA a check for $200,000.00. This was the 21st year of this event and the largest turn out thus far.

I got in line and received my "timing chip" which I would velcro to my ankle for the entire race. Then I got marked on my legs and arms with my race number, 306. I set my run stuff at the bike to run transition area also known as T2 and my bike stuff set up at the swim to bike transition area, or T1. I was ready to swim, but had lots of time to watch things.

I saw my first handicap triathlete. I don't know his name but he was an inspiration to watch. He competed in the men's advanced wave and I saw him as they carried him out of the water (he beat a ton of men on the swim) and placed him in his special bike which he pedaled with his arms. The crowd was cheering for him like crazy.

Ok, here's all the results for me: My division was Men's Beginner age 35-39. I came in 8th place in my division with this breakdown: 5th place in the swim 8th place in the bike 12th place in the run I was 12 min and 32 sec behind the leader of my division. OVERALL: I came in 169th for the entire event of about 325 adults, 25 min behind the leader. I completed the mini triathlon in 56:26. My T1 time was 1 min 46 sec. My T2 time was 1 min 53 sec.

Way to go!!! Boise is the place to do triathlons - I know 3 guys who would love to get you plugged in.

You rock - walking and moving furniture around the next day.

You should be proud of yourself. That's hard work and physical determination.
